August 2007 - Animal Oxygen Masks Donation to Springfield Fire Department

Over the past 10 years our community service projects have included the purchase of a police dog for the Sangamon County Sherriff’s Department, a donation to the Springfield Park District for the establishment of the Dog Park area of Stuart Park, and a contribution to the Springfield Police Department for the maintenance of their K-9 unit.

Our donation today, the animal oxygen masks to the Springfield Fire Department, is the result of our members viewing a story on WICS Channel 20 of a house fire where the firemen had rescued animals from the burning structure that were overcome by the smoke.  The Firemen were ‘making do’ with oxygen masks for humans to administer to the dogs and cats taken from the structure.  The membership felt a need to do something.  We contacted the Fire Department and they accepted our offer to furnish every fire station in the Springfield jurisdiction with a set of animal oxygen masks.  Our membership is proud to make this small donation to the Department.
